BACK TO SCHOOL SOCIAL
This is a wonderful event to welcome all students and their families. We have many tables set out around our food courtyard with information and sign- ups of all the events and clubs we offer at Monte Vista. This event takes place in September.
BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT
Teachers present information regarding their classroom curriculum and activities for the school year. Please make arrangements for child care as this is a parents only event. Each grade level presentation lasts about 30 minutes.
There are many volunteer opportunities in the Vegetable Garden, Orchard and Nature Trail. Parents and families can also Adopt-A-Spot; small landscaped areas near classrooms. Participation can be weekly, monthly or seasonal. All levels of experience are welcome. Tools are provided, when needed.
What is Axxess? Axxess is a great way to save in Santa Barbara. Axxess offers discounts at over 375 local merchants. Our school gets $10 for each card sold. In October, look out for tables at the drop off area. Purchase a few and sell a few to your friends and family.
The PTA Safety Committee sponsors the Bike Rodeo. Bicycle safety tips are given to students from various members of our community. Students bring their own bikes and helmets.
This fun event is organized by the Student Council is held on Halloween and is scheduled during school from 1:00 to 2:30. Each class sets up a different game or booth for all students and parents to enjoy.
SPRING SING This event is held in April each year. All classes sing songs led by our music director, students’ artwork is displayed, and a barbecue and delicious food is sold while families relax on the grass enjoying the evening.
VALENTINE’S CANDY GRAMS
The Student Council sells candy grams during Valentine’s Day in February. For a small fee, you can send candy and a note to other students and teachers. Boxes of donated candy are needed.
Classes meet on the upper field and walk around the neighborhood coming up through Willowglen Park and returning to campus. Parents are welcome to participate.
GENTLY USED BOOK & EXCHANGE
Students are asked to donate books they no longer need and exchange them for other books. This is a great opportunity to clean out those bookshelves!
HONORARY SERVICE AWARDS
These are yearly awards given to persons involved in the school. Parent Volunteer, teachers and school support staff all can be nominated. Nomination forms appear in the school newspaper in the spring and are submitted into a box in the office. PTA committee organizes this event.
Every student is invited to audition and if selected, perform his or her talent individually or as a group in front of students and parents. We have a kindergarten through third grade show and a fourth through sixth grade show. This event put on by the Student Council is held in May each year.
RED RIBBON WEEK
This weeklong campaign held in October encourages kids to stay drug free. The information and education disseminated is tailored for all age groups at Monte Vista. PTA parents organize this event.
WALK TO SCHOOL DAY
The Safety Committee hosts a designated day during the year for students to walk to school. This helps our environment, congestion in our parking lot and promotes good physical health for all.
Students gather in the auditorium to sing holiday songs.
AFTER SCHOOL CLASSES
These are parent paid after school classes. Classes vary from violin to drumming from science to baking. Classes run for six weeks. Watch for sign ups and get there early-classes fill up fast!
This is a school wide program in which students read books at their assigned level and take comprehension tests on the computer.
We offer a variety of programs for your child to perform at Monte Vista. Dates and times will be announced but these programs offer your child an opportunity to explore their creative side.
GARDENING AT MONTE VISTA
If you have a green thumb or you have extra plants let the PTA know. We can always use helping hands to beautify our campus.
This is an enrichment program for identified gifted students in 4th to 6th grades.
RAPTOR READER PROGRAM
This is a reading support program for K-1. Children are given a book to read nightly at their reading level. A parent volunteer organizes the program.
SCIENCE CAMPS FOR FIFTH AND SIXTH GRADES
Fifth and sixth graders attend a five-day outdoor education science camp. It is funded by parents and camp costs can be supplemented by selling/supporting wrapping paper sales and purchasing PTA Store Dollars. Sixth graders will go to Pali Institute in September and fifth graders will go to CIMI in December.
Headed by the Student Council, canned food is collected for the Unity Shoppe in December.
